GB Park and Pipe’s Championship Ski and Snowboard and Delancey launch new prize at BRITS 2017

Young riders at the BRITS 2017 in Laax (www.the-brits.com) will be in with the chance of claiming a brand new prize, which has been launched by GB Park and Pipe’s Championship Ski and Snowboard (CSS) along with sponsor Delancey.

‘CSS at the BRITS’ sponsored by real estate investment company Delancey will award Young Guns (Under 18) who perform the best tricks in the Ski and Snowboard Big Air events with a £500 cheque for the winners, and £250 for second placed athletes.

A dedicated filmer will capture the tricks of every Young Gun rider in the Picture Organic Snowboard Big Air on Thursday 6th April of the BRITS and the Picture Organic Ski Big Air on Friday 7th, including practice and qualification. This footage will then be watched by a panel of high profile judges, including the Head GB Park and Pipe coaches, before the top two tricks in ski and snowboard based on difficulty, execution, amplitude and landing for males and females are selected.

Championship Ski and Snowboard (CSS) was launched last year, and was hugely successful. The nationwide competition, which aims to grow and nurture young British freestyle ski and snowboard talent saw 64 snowboarders and 70 skiers from 12 teams take part in the competition, with each team uploading their videos of tricks after each match, aiming to come out top of the CSS snowboard or ski league. The launch of CSS at the BRITS sponsored by Delancey is aimed at bringing the CSS concept out to the Alps and giving young riders another chance to show their progression and be rewarded for their development.

Hamish McKnight, Head Snowboard Coach of GB Park and Pipe and the brain behind CSS said for the new concept: “With Delancey looking to support the development of our up and coming riders in both ski and snowboard, we decided that the BRITS would be the perfect place to do this and give the young riders another incentive to show us what they can do and how they are pushing the boundaries of freestyle skiing and snowboarding. We will be filming all the runs in the Picture Organic Big Air, not just in competition but in training as well, giving all riders as many opportunities as they can to try and claim the prize by impressing us with their tricks.”

The following criteria will be followed by the CSS at the BRITS judging panel; Difficulty: The technical difficulty of the trick, including rotation, direction, axis, grab, risk, and progression. Execution: How well performed the trick was. Amplitude: How big the trick was, including height as well as distance down the landing. Landing: How clean, stable, and controlled the landing was.

Prizes for the CSS at the BRITS sponsored by Delancey competition will be awarded at the final prize-giving ceremony on Friday at the BRITS.
