    BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR

    In partnership with BASI we are offering the joint SSS/BASI Level 1 Ski or Snowboard Instructor qualification. It is a 5 day, non-residential, course taking place from Monday to Friday or over a number of weekends.

    SCOPE OF THE AWARD

    This is an entry level course for students who wish to join the instructing pathway. The qualification is for working on artificial slopes in the UK. To work in the mountain environment students will have to complete the L2 qualification. The course includes technical skills, teaching development & progressions and class management.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    The following criteria must be met by candidates to attend this course:

    • must be at least 16 years old
    • be a joint member of Snowsport Scotland and BASI. See Membership section.
    • Skiers - Be able to ski parallel confidently on red runs, making rhythmical turns close to the fall line at a steady pace
    • Snowboarders - Be able to ride confidently on red runs, linking rhythmical small radius turns close to the fall line at a steady pace

    Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will also be required to complete a 2 day First Aid Course, PVG with Disclosure Scotland, Safeguarding & Protecting Children module and 35 hours snowsport school experience. Once all parts are finished a candidate will be issued with a licence.  

    RESITS

    Resits can be offered to students, at the Tutor's discretion, who have been unsuccessful with one area of the course. Please see the full Resit Policy here
