We are committed to providing courses to allow prospective candidates the ability to become leaders, instructors and coaches. There is something for everyone whether you want to instruct on artificial slopes in the UK, take your first steps on the coaching ladder, or become qualified in taking groups safely around the pistes. We also provide other useful courses such as first aid courses for our members.
All our courses are listed in our Find a Course section so if you already know the best course for you take a look to see when and where the next one is available and sign up! It is a requirement for all courses (except first aid) to be a member of our coaching scheme. See the Membership section for further information.
Our leader awards are available in Alpine, Snowboard and Nordic Disciplines. Taking place over 6 or 7 days the course gives candidates the necessary skills required to safely lead a group of skiers or snowboarders around the mountain. Aimed at people who need to escort a group of inexperienced snowsport enthusiasts around the pistes outside of lesson time. Popular with teachers and group organisers see our Become a Leader section for more detail.
Our instructor courses, in partnership with the BASI (British Alpine Snowsports Instructors), allow successful candidates the opportunity to teach groups of people on artificial slopes in the UK. The 5 day SSS/BASI Level 1 Instructor, available in Alpine and Snowboard, gives a foundation in instructing and is the first step for those wishing to continue up the pathway at a later date to perhaps teaching on snow and in the Alps. See our Become an Instructor section for more detail on level 1, or BASI for snow qualifications.
We offer courses in Alpine, Snowboard and Nordic Performance to allow skiers and snowboarders of the right ability the chance to coach up and coming athletes. Awards range from those suitable for club coaches helping youngsters beginning racing to the top end performance for coaching FIS standard athletes. See our Become a Coach section for more detail, or have a look at BASI's Coaching Pathway.
To be fully insured when using a qualification it is necessary to have a valid first aid certificate. The requirement is a minimum of 12 hours contact time and from an HSE approved provider. We offer 2 day first aid courses at Midlothian Snowsports Centre to meet this aim.
