BASI Adaptive Courses

We are collaborating with BASI to bring you two new courses focused on upskilling coaches and instructors to support people with additional needs and visual impairments.

The courses are:-

Additional Needs in Snowsports

Visual Impairment in Snowsports

Both courses include a 2x2hr tutor-led online training course, and a 1 day on-slope training session. Attending the online course gives you a 3-year CPD but attending the online and on-slope sessions will grant you an adaptive certification on your downloadable Sportlomo membership card, and it will show on your qualifications list.

These online courses have been designed to support your existing snowsports qualification with the skills and knowledge to safely teach learners with Additional Needs or Visual Impairments within a snowsports environment. They are discipline-neutral and you will learn alongside members from all disciplines. The trainer will develop your understanding of commonly encountered additional needs or visual impairments, give you the skills required to evaluate the needs of your learner and show you how to adapt your delivery to the ever-evolving needs of your learner. Safety considerations will be discussed in depth, as well as exercises that will encourage you to think ‘outside the box’, and open conversations regarding your own personal experiences will be encourage. If you want to read more about the courses here are the descriptions from the BASI website.

The online tutor-lead courses will run over two separate evening sessions allowing you time to reflect and complete the Home Study tasks between sessions. Sign up for the courses can be found here:

The on-slope courses are currently only available for ski instructors and alpine coaches but an on-slope course for snowboard members is in the planning and will be available in the future.

You will need to create an account on the BASI site but it is not necessary to become a member and the courses are £79 for Snowsport Scotland members.
