NEW YOUNG PERSON’S FUND TO HELP BUILD SCOTLAND’S FUTURE SNOWSPORTS WORKFORCE

Young people across Scotland are being given new opportunities to step into the snowsports industry thanks to the launch of the Young Persons Grassroots Coach & Instructor Education Subsidy.

Delivered by Snowsport Scotland and supported through funding from sportscotland, the initiative is designed to help more young people under the age of 25 gain coaching and instructor qualifications at Scottish snowsports facilities.

The new fund aims to tackle workforce shortages, strengthen participation in clubs and facilities, and create clearer pathways for young people to stay involved in the sport.

BREAKING DOWN FINANCIAL BARRIERS

Eligible applicants can receive up to 50% funding towards course fees and associated qualification costs, helping remove financial barriers for aspiring instructors and coaches.

The programme has been created to address several key challenges currently facing the snowsports sector, including instructor shortages and the dropout of young participants from the sport. By supporting young people into grassroots coaching and instructing roles, the fund will help create a stronger and more sustainable future for Scottish snowsports.

BUILDING A STRONGER WORKFORCE

The initiative will:

  • Support young people to gain grassroots qualifications that directly boost participation

  • Grow the entry-level workforce to reduce staffing shortages across Scotland

  • Reduce sport dropout by creating clear progression pathways

  • Strengthen participation within clubs and snowsports facilities

  • Support the rural Scottish snowsports economy through a more resilient local workforce

CREATING LONG TERM OPPORTUNITIES

With demand for qualified instructors continuing to grow, the subsidy offers a valuable opportunity for young people looking to turn their passion for snowsports into practical skills, qualifications, and employment opportunities.

Snowsport Scotland is encouraging eligible young people, clubs, and facilities to take advantage of the funding and help grow the next generation of Scotland’s snowsports workforce.
