POLMONTHILL SNOWSPORTS CENTRE SECURES COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP
After a concerted year-long campaign, Polmonthill Snowsports Centre has officially been secured into community ownership. The community-led charity Polmonthill Community Snowsports Centre has successfully completed its Community Asset Transfer (CAT) with Falkirk Council, taking ownership of the beloved dry ski slope and facilities that have served generations of learners, families and emerging snowsport athletes.
Under the terms of the transfer, the slope and site have passed out of Falkirk Council’s estate and into the care of local volunteers and trustees, who have spent 2024 and 2025 building the organisational and operational capacity to run the venue sustainably.
Polmonthill joins a growing number of community assets across Scotland being transferred into local stewardship through CAT programmes, a process underpinned by national and local efforts to empower communities and safeguard valued public spaces and services.
A HUB FOR ALL SEASONS
Polmonthill has long been recognised as one of Scotland’s most accessible dry ski and snowsports venues, offering lessons and activities for beginners through to advanced skiers and snowboarders all year round. Under community ownership, the centre aims to preserve and expand that offer, with a focus on affordable coaching, inclusive participation, and volunteer-driven events.
The centre’s new leadership has plans to enhance facilities, increase programming for young people and adults alike, and widen access for clubs, schools, and local groups.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR GRASSROOT SPORTS
The success of Polmonthill’s community asset transfer is not just a local milestone, it’s a model of resilience for grassroots snowsports in the UK. In an era when many small slopes face closure or redevelopment pressures, Polmonthill’s transition highlights how community spirit and volunteer leadership can safeguard facilities that nurture skills, confidence, and lifelong passions.
Supporters and volunteers are now inviting friends, families and enthusiasts across Scotland to get involved, whether through participation, volunteering, or helping shape the next chapter for Polmonthill.
