SCOTTISH ATHLETES SHINE ON INTERNATIONAL (AND HOME) STAGE IN REMARKABLE WEEK OF SUCCESS
Scottish winter sport athletes have enjoyed a standout week on the snow, delivering podium performances across para alpine skiing, para snowboarding and alpine racing, while grassroots snowsport also returned to home soil.
Leading the charge was Neil Simpson, who enjoyed a hugely successful week on the World Cup para alpine circuit. Simpson claimed two bronze medals in the downhill, one alongside his brother and guide Andrew Simpson, and another with Rob Poth. The strong results continued in the Super-G, where Simpson added a silver and a further bronze, once again skiing with both Andrew Simpson and Rob Poth.
In para snowboarding, Davy Zyw delivered an impressive performance at the Europa Cup para snowboard banked slalom, taking home a silver and a bronze medal. The results mark an important step forward as Zyw continues his journey toward his Paralympic dream, showing strong form and momentum on the international stage.
Scottish alpine skiers also made their mark in Italy, with Ian Menzies finishing second in the Cortina d’Ampezzo CIT Super-G, a highly competitive international race. He was joined on the podium by Emerson P, who secured second and third place finishes across the same set of races.
Closer to home, Scottish snowsport celebrated a milestone moment as the Lecht Open took place on Scottish snow for the first time since 2023. Despite challenging weather conditions, young athletes embraced the weekend with enthusiasm. Saturday’s rain failed to dampen spirits, with kids enjoying the racing, the atmosphere and the rare opportunity to compete at home.
