Snowsport Scotland and Austria Tourism launch "First Tracks" primary schools learn-to-ski project!

Snowsport Scotland, the National Governing Body for Snowsports in Scotland, is thrilled to announce a major new partnership with Austria Tourism to launch an exciting national schools project: "First Tracks."

This new initiative is set to offer 150 primary school-age children across Scotland the chance to experience the thrill of skiing or snowboarding for the first time at a selection of artificial snow centres across the country.

Laying Down the "First Tracks"

The "First Tracks" project will offer fully subsidised, introductory snowsports lessons specifically to Primary Schools. This focused partnership addresses the vital first step on the snowsport journey, providing an accessible and fun way for children to discover a passion for snowsports. By removing barriers to entry, Snowsport Scotland and Austria Tourism aim to build a new generation of enthusiasts, supporting up to 150 participants in this initial phase.

Iain Ramsay-Clapham, CEO of Snowsport Scotland: "We are incredibly excited to partner with Austria Tourism on 'First Tracks.' This project is crucial for youth engagement in snowsports. Giving primary school children the chance to try skiing or snowboarding right here in Scotland is vital, and the support from Austria helps us make that dream a reality for these 150 young participants. It’s the perfect start to a lifelong adventure on the snow"

Promotig Austria: The Home of Snowsports

A key element of "First Tracks" is a unique promotional campaign designed to introduce participating schools and pupils to the culture, lifestyle, food and music of Austria and its potential as a world-class snowsports destination.

Austria Tourism's support will integrate the rich culture, stunning scenery, and family-friendly resorts of Austria into the programme providing educational materials, themed events, and competitions which will highlight the Austrian Alps

[Quote from Austria Tourism Representative]: "Austria is renowned globally for its passion for snowsports, from its legendary resorts to its world-leading ski schools. By collaborating with Snowsport Scotland on this 'First Tracks Project,' we are investing in the future of the sport and welcoming young Scots to learn about Austria as a destination. We can’t wait to see them progress from the artificial slopes of Scotland to carving their turns on the pristine pistes of the Austrian Alps."

Project Roll-Out

The "First Tracks" programme will officially commence in December 2025 and will initially target primary schools within easy reach of Scotland’s key artificial ski centres, supporting the participation of up to 150 children.
