Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week - Georgia Blaikie Interview

Our next featured female athlete representing Team Snowsport Scotland for Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week is Georgia Blaikie! Georgia is currently in our 2025/26 Scottish Alpine Team and will be training alongside our coaches this season.

Hi my name is Georgia Blaikie and my sport is ski racing, my biggest achievement is making the Scottish team my first year FIS.

1. What inspired you to pursue your sport at a high level?

I was inspired by the incredible athletes in this sport , Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsay Vonn to name a couple, my coach also inspired me to be the best I can be.

2. What’s the biggest mental challenge you face in competition, and how do you overcome it?

The biggest mental challenge I face in competition I would say is trying to keep calm and focus on the race in hand. To overcome this I try and surround myself with my friends and teammates and try and act as if it is just a training day

3. What’s the most underrated aspect of training for your discipline?

I would say the time off the slopes and the mental effort needed, sometimes after a bad training day you can get down but it is important to pick yourself up and prep your skis for the next day and move on and focus.

4. If you had to describe your sport to someone who’s never seen snow before, how would you do it?

I would describe it as exhilarating and truly magical.

5. What’s the wildest or most unexpected thing that’s happened to you on the slopes?

The most wildest thing I would say to happen to me is getting to watch Dave Ryding compete and getting my helmet signed by him, Laurie Taylor and Billy Major.

6. If you could change one rule or aspect of your sport, what would it be?

I would change the hiking rules because I do understand it although sometimes can be frustrating.

7. What’s your go-to excuse when you totally mess up a run/lap?

My go to excuse would be ‘I hit a lump of snow and got thrown out’.

8. If you could add one event to the Winter Olympics, what would it be?

This is hard - I would say another variation of ice skating because I enjoy watching that.

9. If you could compete in any other winter sport for a day, which would it be and why?

Ice skating I think would be amazing - I think it’s incredible to watch and would be stunning to compete in.
