Ready to take the next step in your instructing or coaching journey? The On-Piste Leadership Skills Module offers UKSS instructors and coaches the opportunity to extend their qualification remit and lead groups at Scottish mountain resorts.
Formerly known as Mountain Induction Training, this one-day course builds the knowledge, decision-making and leadership skills needed to manage groups safely in a mountain environment. With courses at The Lecht, Glencoe Mountain and Cairngorm Mountain this season, it’s a chance to develop your skills on Scotland’s slopes.
Build confidence in the mountain environment
Leading a group in the mountains brings fresh challenges and rewarding opportunities. This course will help you prepare, covering mountain leadership fundamentals, choosing suitable terrain and training environments, recognising hazards, navigating within a resort, and managing injuries and incidents.
Assessment is integrated throughout the day through practical activities, role plays, observation and questioning, giving you opportunities to demonstrate your skills as you learn.
Who can take part?
The module is open to UKSS Ski and Snowboard Instructors, Alpine Race Coaches and Park & Pipe Coaches who hold current Snowsport Scotland membership.
Successful completion extends the scope of your qualification to operate at Scottish mountain resorts, within the remit of your award. It also provides three-year CPD revalidation for your UKSS Instructor or Coach qualification.
